Thank you so much Dean one more quiestion on the transformer when I put the two yellows wires on a power supply it made a big spark like it was going plus to minus so will it hurt the circuit when i connect it up.<p>thanks again

that's what what I thought because the switching power supply shares the 12 volt and 5 volt ground so I just wanted to be sure.<p>
thanks you all for your help<p>If any one still has a circuit digram that will switch over when the batts go dead let me know.

thanks for the info again Greg so if I get a plug-in transformer that puts the voltage down to 12 volts A.C I could get rid of some of these steps right?

I have two questions #01 is there a circuit that when two aa batteries go dead will switch over to another set of 3volt batteries i'm going to use this cricuit on a solar charger for the batteries so if the solar panels do not get enough power during the day to charge the batts the circuit will swit...

I built a project that was a old phone I put the mic in a remote location to listen to people.Anyway the voltage I used for the phone to work was 4AA batt
(6 volts) to get a phone to ring I heard from my phone company that it is aroung 70 volts A.C

Thanks for your help Greg I'm looking at one of those emergency backup lights now but all i see is a transistor and some diodes the transistor leads go to the light then another one goes to the battery ground then the last one goes to all of the diodes and resistors thats were I get lost.I kind of t...

Wow looks like I found heaven anyway I wonder if anyone knows how to build a battery backup system so when the A.C power goes out it will switch over to battery the battery would have to be different voltage like from 3-12 volts D.C<p> :D
