Re: USB Hub Power Supply Causing Huge Problem!

JerryR, I haven't tried anything yet, but I think you've got the solution! I'm a little confused about a how you constructed an adapter. There are M-to-F and F-to-M adapters. Adapters are monolithic blobs of plastic and metal. How can you cut the +5v connection without destroying one of the adapter...

Re: USB Hub Power Supply Causing Huge Problem!

Motherboard is: ASUS Z170K, USB ports are part of the MB(not headers), and all mounting screws are snug. I first ran into this about 6 month ago, what led me to the powered hub was, when I opened the case **with the power cable removed**, there are some LEDs under the MB -(I don't use them and they ...

Re: USB Hub Power Supply Causing Huge Problem!

Ran into the same (almost) problem awhile back, in that the pc refused to re-boot while the powered usb hub was connnected, but in my case the power supply was fine. (everything was working OK prior to the re-boot while the pc was runing and the hub was connected). In my case the solution was to bui...

Re: Make Win8.1 boot from a USB

I have a USB that is supposed to let you boot any computer direct from the USB. I can not see how one sets the Win8.1 to boot first from the USB. How do you set the boot sequence? Thanks, Rodney Oh yes, this is a Dell desktop. On the 2 dells that I have(a laptop and a Desktop) it's the same. If you...

Re: Kensington Trackball Compatiblity woes.......

I think I read in one of your previous posts that you changed from Win XP to Win 7, Was the win XP a retail version?.
If it was and you are not using it any more, that license can be used to install Win XP on another FREE virtual machine(Oracle VM VirtualBox-is one, there are more).

Re: Kensington Trackball Compatiblity woes.......

You wrote that you installed xpmode on your Win7 Home Premium and it did not help you. You also asked for a link to xpmode. Here is a link to xpmode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7 A quick look on the page The win xp supplied is 32 bit- that ...

Re: Kensington Trackball Compatiblity woes.......

If you *must* have the win xp trackball functionality for your cad program, free hand drawings etc. How about running those programs (and the mouse driver) in a virtual machine running win xp?. When Win 7 came out, Microsoft provided a way to run a FREE copy of Win XP in a virtual machine(I think it...

Re: XP folder question and home page question..

Yes it should stay the way you set it until you decide to change it.... it should even survive a re-boot. I don't have an XP machine any more to try it on. I tried it on a Win 7 machine document folder (contains both, files and sub folders) and the change did survive a re boot. HTH JerryR Edit It sh...

Re: XP folder question and home page question..

When you open the folder in question, you can use (On the menu bar)View-->Sort By-->Ascending/descending to change the order that the files(icons) are sorted/listed. Or, temporarily change the folder view to Details, than by clicking on the different column title (Name, Date Modified, Size, Etc.) yo...

[quote="ModRob"]Again, many thanks guys...I don't have tech stuff like scopes and such (hmmm...wish I did though), other than a DMM, and again, at my age, my learning of ohms and impedances is troubling. I've always been fairly lucky at "fixing" or modifying things with my "...

Ah ha! You might be on to something there...I'm thinking it's still wired in the original format (divider, which I don't quite understand) but since I did some extensive "remods" then I believe I need to change it to "series"... Inputs balanced? I don't think so...CD player come...

Hi Miguel, Thanks for the response. I have tried the slave drive process that you have suggested and to come to find out I ha a Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 HD and it has point to point serial ATA adapter, which will always configure to a master along with another HD. What would be another way to get ...

I have never used the "File and Setting Transfer wizard", but after reading about it at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457074.aspx#EGAA, I think imaging your C: drive to your thumb drive should be easier and faster. you can google for "free hard drive imaging" and ...

Re: Audio Combiner - Integrator - Splitter - or - I Don't Kn

What you are looking for is a 2 input audio mixer, you can google for it if you want to buy of the shelf. Or, to do it on the cheap - if you have a stereo speaker setup, You could buy (or make) a Y cable that has 2 male mono plugs(Tip, Sleeve) to 1 female stereo plug(Tip, Ring, Sleeve) that will giv...
