Motor as generator
I have an old exercise bike that I would like to fool around with putting on a generator. I think I know that you can use a DC motor as a generator but I have some questions. 1. Does it have to be a permanent magnet motor? 2. As an example, if the stats on an imaginary motor says: 12v. 1amp, 700 rpm...

Thanks for the help guys.

That looks like a handy website, would something like that be available as a download so it would be usable for the times you don't have web access?Lenp wrote: Here's a link that will help. http://555-timer-circuits.uk/operation/one-shot.html

Beeper chirp
I am helping my friend set up a 12v actuator on his harvester. I am going to set a limit switch to turn on a indicator light when it reaches end of travel. What would be the simplest way to set up a piezo beeper to chirp once every time the light goes on. Maybe there is a beeper for sale that is des...

Re: electronic dice
 What ? Add them together! Can't you just do that in your head. Yeah it's possible but I would use a microchip. Steve G I've always wanted to get started with micro-controllers, maybe this would be a good reason. Next I need to figure out which. I'm thinking I need a micro that would...

Re: electronic dice
Thanks a lot. How complicated would it be to have the to numbers added together, for example instead of showing a 3 and 4 it would show 7? Lamar

electronic dice
I've always wanted to have electronic dice but can not find any that output in decimal numbers. How easy would it be to add a circuit to this kit to output to two seven segment LEDs? http://www.ramseyelectronics.com/cgi-bi ... &key=K3400 Lamar

Re: alternator question
Sorry I'm late to the discussion but as an electrical rebuilder your question caught my eye. Alternators can be rebuilt to deliver more amps to a certain degree BUT watch out, more amps mean more heat with the same surface area so that means a hotter running alt. which cuts the life. Also if you twe...

Re: wireless counter
If I read this post correctly, the problem is not in how to measure the rotations but rather how to get the readings from the measured point to the ground. I envision that the turbine is mounted on a bearing assembly that has a concentric air line. The whole turbine is free to rotate to the wind, w...

Re: wireless counter
I am assuming that the compressor is in the top thats rotates, if so than the air line has a coupler that swivels. It's a shame the compressor is not stationary and the shaft comes down to turn the compressor. True. Is the shaft to the compressor in the center of the head that rotates? if so then y...

Re: wireless counter
If I would use a couple of rare earth magnets on the shaft and a coil to pick it up, do you guys think it would be possible to get enough power from that to transmit a "pulse" from an antenna to a receiver 100' away? The transmitter antenna could not be directional because the head rotates...

Re: wireless counter
Thanks for all the reply's and ideas so far. The wireless bike computer is a good idea that I will have to think about. I'm not so interested about RPM as I am about counting total rounds but it would be an interesting side benefit. Here's my reasoning for counting the rounds: if for example a 13 HP...

Re: wireless counter
I already had and discarded the slip ring idea because I figured it would be hard to keep good contact through them over time, especially with low voltage but maybe I'm wrong. Miguel's suggestion about reflective tape and a laser sounded intriguing but the blades don't stay in the same spot as the h...

Re: wireless counter
An air compressor/wind turbine is an air compressor mounted on a tower with three blades attached so the wind can pump air, looks very similar to a small electric wind generator. It's a new product on the market made by an Amishman in ME under the brand name "Winpressor".Since on some days...
