found this nifty little LCD meter..
the info i find on it is....
PCIM 174/5M
the little ic on it is a µPD833
N9714R
made by NEC
on the display if i look just right,,it looks like
it may resemble an alarm clock,
the commections on the back are,,
TST , FS , FM , FH , OUT , STW , ALS , SEC , SNZ , ACS , SCI , ALM , CNT , 6/3 , 6/12 , VDD , VSS , LMP,LMP
also scattered across the board are other other contacts..
SLP , COM , AL , COL , T1 , T2 , T3 , T4 ,
this little modual looks like it might be pretty fancy, if i can get it going...
can anyone ID this LCD panel meter???
Re: can anyone ID this LCD panel meter???
Are you sure its a meter, can you see the pixels (digits)?
Just guessing but it sounds like it is a display for a clock radio. The pin names ALM=Alarm, FM, SNZ=Snooze , SLP=Sleep (and the others I would be wild guessing)are my clues. However, other things might have these functions
Can't hurt to put 5V on Vdd and ground on VSS and see what happens. If nothing, ease on up to 12V.
While powered up, use a DMM to measure each pin (WRT VSS). Pins with constant voltages are likely outputs and ones that look open (no voltage) are probably inputs. Once powered up, try shorting the various inputs to VDD or VSS through a 10K resistor and see what happens.
If it is a meter, try comparing to a number of known datasheets for similar devices.

Re: can anyone ID this LCD panel meter???
I know this is now very VERY old but I came across one of these while doing some serious re-organization of my Makerspace and did a quick search and saw this. I then remembered that I have another one of these still in the original package so I just spent about 10 minutes and was actually able to find it. The package is all beat up but the module is still in perfect condition. This is an Archer LCD TIMER/CLOCK MODULE. The one I just found is heavily used and not in such great condition. If you are still looking for these let me know. Here are a couple pictures for the community. Hope this helps someone at least.

It may be an old post, but that is definitely a blast from the past. I remember seeing them on the pegboard back in the day, and I may have helped inventory some of them back in my latter teens. I used to hang out with the staff a lot back then.
Hey, what do I know?

Lol... Ya, the staff knew me well and send work my way at times. I remember when the car phones came out..
they couldn't send them my way fast enough, I made Bank during that time for about 2 yrs.
I'd charge $200 to install a car phone..
You'd think RS was my 2nd home.. too bad they all closed..

Wow, I thought I was the only one who hung out at RS.
Thou....
I also became a SMUGH guy.{(S)t.Paul, (M)inneapolis, (U)sers, (G)roup, of (H)eathkit}.
But at RS...
I and another guy would take games that were in computer mag's, and hand type them in to a TRS-80 that was on display at the shop.
Thou, we had to debug the programs to get them to work.
But once we got them to work on the computer, the Manager would have us save the programs on cassettes he gave us.
That way he had a way to demo the computer.
Fun days......

Dang, that sounds awsome..what games were they ?
I tried typing out a few games long ago on a TIMEX Sinclair 2000, I got mad many times, Almost had it all typed out, and the computer would crash because of either not strong enough power supply or I ran out of RAM.
It seemed like it took forever to type out too,,at least 1 to 2 hrs..This was when i decided that programming wasn't my thing.
Plus there was so many weird symbols that resembled hieroglyphs...

Re: can anyone ID this LCD panel meter???
I don't remember all of them...
But one was called "Adventure".
A text based game, that was later made into "Zork I"
Another was "Maze Monster"??? {I think that's what it was called}.
It was text based game as well, only it would generate a growl from the computers on board speaker.
As the monster got closer to you, the louder the growl would get.
If you got caught by the monster, the very loud growling stopped, and a message was displayed "You died".
Yeah, the Sinclair's had a cool look to them.dacflyer wrote: ↑Wed Mar 16, 2022 5:07 pmI tried typing out a few games long ago on a TIMEX Sinclair 2000, I got mad many times, Almost had it all typed out, and the computer would crash because of either not strong enough power supply or I ran out of RAM.

But, not enough memory, and under powered supply.
Also, It used a version of Basic that was different from most other versions.
So, getting a program that worked on a ATARI 800, would be darn near impossible to get working on a Sinclair.
Also, those "weird symbols" are mostly for doing graphics.
Plus, the small keyboard made typing on it a pain.
When the Tandy 1000 came out.
I saved up my money, and bought the store demo machine at the RS for around $600.00
It only had 128K of memory, but there was all sorts of expandability.
By the time I passed the Tandy 1000 off to my sister.
It had 640K of memory.
(2) Serial Ports for a Mouse & 56K External Modem.
(2) 360K Floppies.
(1) 40 Meg Hardcard.
NEC 30 CPU Upgrade from 8088 CPU.
14" CGA Monitor.
I would of kept it longer, but memory expansion boards for it, just weren't available.
Plus, I had maxed out the processor as far as the motherboard would allow.
