Downloaded a live booting disc for killing viruses and worked. (even killed the internet access, but will try to guess how to restore it later...)
The nature of the program does not allow to add/update virus definitions periodically, every time a new disk has to be burned.
But I did it on a re-writtable disc. Will it be updated there as if it was a hard drive; or when updating it will erase the previous version to burn the new one ?

Hi. It's Kaspersky. Perhaps the correct term is 'rescue/recovery/cleaner' program

Re: Anti virus live disc...
The only way to have an up to date Re-Writable CD/DVD would be to download the rescue image again and burn it. It would be nice to just update the files on the CD-RW but it's not possible. If you own a USB flash drive you may be able to store updates there. If your computer supports booting from USB you could "burn" the rescue image to the USB drive and boot from it, then the image could be updated without re-downloading the whole thing.

I found another LiveCD with Antivirus called UBCD4Win. Check out: http://www.ubcd4win.com/
It has a lot of other helpful utilities in addition to AV and for $4.50, you can have it and a Starbuck's Mocha...

There's always BartPE discs. This boots Windows more or less (you need the WinXP install files to build the disc) and you can download the McAfee virus scanner as an add on. BartPE will boot off a USB thumb drive.
If you have a Big Lots, Dollar General, Family Dollar, etc. they sell HP brand 50 disc spindles for $10 normal price. That's only 20 cents a DISC!
But... Try this: burn a current version then burn an updated version. Compare the differences in the DAT file structure. If the name remains the same but the file is different, then you CAN overwrite the outdated DAT file with an new one. This usually works until you fill up the disc.
