Eyeball Animatronics

A while ago I experimented with various animatronic eyeball mechanisms and devised a version with 2 axis and eyelid motion. I wanted to create a portable reuseable module that could be placed in various props.

These 2 videos summarize that work and provide perspective on how to fabricate inexpensive eye movements with a ping pong ball, MDF wood, wire and a hobby universal joint.

These prototypes were programmed with tracskull, a laptop based application that reads a joystick and sends commands to a usb/servo controller.

To effectively program the eyeball, I needed a high precision joystick, so I invented the one shown in this video. It feeds a custom software application called Servo Recorder Playback that records 8 channels of proportional servo commands on an SD Card and plays it back on cue.

That's great Brian! I am working on an article that will feature several different moving eye mechanisms. Would you mind if I included yours in the article as well?
