Animatronic Moving Hand in Flying Saucer

Post by lightman » Sun Oct 04, 2015 9:14 pm

I have fabricated a flying saucer prop that has an animated hand that emerges from a hatch. This effect is scaled down to a model format called a maquette. Once proof of concept works, it can be sized up to full scale.

The hand will emerge from hatch, drag along the saucer surface, then retract back into the hatch. The model hand was fabricated from cardboard, hot glue, and a servo motor.

Here is video of proof of concept...

I then took it to the next level and sculpted a hand to fit the maquette. The hand was sculpted from patch n paint.

Here is video of new hand, in motion...

Brian, the motion of the hand is perfect! Nice design of the mechanism.
May the passion to build be with you!
