What is this apparatus ?

Post by Fred Cailloux » Fri May 13, 2016 6:44 am

I guys,
I have this, seems to be, EEPROM programmer of some sort. Can find nothing on the WEB about it.
Have no instructions whatsoever. I have taken it apart to look. The thing is so well build that it break my hart to demolish it and use only the box.
So, as a last resort, I am lodging an appeal to all of you in search of information about the unit.
See the picture attached. High definition photos available if necessary.
Can anyone identify this apparatus and perhaps give me a hint as to where I can find instructions and or technical details about it ?

Thanks you

Are there any other markings on the unit, such as a model number or FCC id? Other than what you've clearly shown, all I can make out is on the back right corner, Pilot, (something unreadable) Adapter, (symbols?).

If this a commercial unit, it has to have something else to identify it.

Thank you CeaSaR for taking the time to attempt.
Here, listed for your convenience, Everything I can see as far as letters, references, or any other indications that would help identify the unit. All theses indications are on the pictures shown but may be difficult to read.
On the top: PILOT GP ADAPTOR 460V em 38-8 with a little circle with 4 lines at 12 3 6 and 9 hours.
On the back: +DC IN -DC IN GROUND CHASSIS RS232 PIN 1 POWER RESET RS232
On the front: Current Breakers POWER GROUND CHASSIS PILOT and this sign that look like a Yin Yang circle.
No writings on either side neither on the bottom
Inside the unit are a whole lot of electronic including a complex PWM power supply and what looks like a Z80 computer board with the Z80 processor.
I am quite certain this unit a some sort of EEPROM programmer from a UK company (by the spelling of ADAPTOR) but mainly I'd like to identify it so I can retrace the instructions and perhaps software to run it as intended.
Thanks for your reply
Fred

First thing that popped into the head was an early motherboard prototyping machine. Spent the better part of 3 days looking for a reference, but could find none. I wonder if that is a one off. Sometimes you see similar machines that are used to program chips for automotive use. But this one seem much to early for that. Perhaps the slots are for spacing the board to account for different component heights. This one is truly a head scratcher.

I would hold off on demolishing that machine, I think you have something very unique there. The post in the other forum has a lot of views but no id as of yet, I think they have like 2 million electronic members across the globe, which is why I think its is a one off. Would it be possible to take additional photos?
