LOREX LW2742 Wireless Monitor........

Post by Janitor Tzap »

This just came in to my work bench.
Image
The owner had snapped the center pin off of the power jack.
The Power Jack looks Like this:

I have found Power Jack's that come close, but are not the same size barrel plug end.
Here is what the Plug Looks like.

Thus, I need to find that same style of Power Jack, but one that will take the 2.5mm OD X 0.7mm ID Barrel tip plug.

I've already tried DigiKey, but they don't have one in the size I need.

Any ideas where I could find one?

Last I saw parts like that was in MCM. Not sure if Newark has them.

UPDATE:

After checking every parts supplier I could find, and even a friend who works for a local electronic parts warehouse.
There wasn't a power jack of type and spec's I needed anywhere in the USA.

Even the company that made the power jack wasn't carrying replacements. :?
WHY???

Well.....
It turns out that they have an agreement with LOREX, that they will not supply replacement parts till after 2 years,
when the product warranty has expired.
ARGHHHHHH!!!!!! :x
{Which seems weird, since I found replacement 7" LCD screens for it.}

I went back to my customer and asked when he purchased it.
He said just last year, so it was still under warranty.
Thus, I advised him to contact LOREX, and get a replacement monitor from them.

This buy and replace economy is getting ridiculous.
Why must we continue to replace most everything we currently own, every two or three years!

Engineered to mess specifically with you. Seems like you offered the best option. Another would be to replace the power supply with one with a cord you could match with the socket or splice a new connector, not as neat as you would like I suppose.

Externet,

None of the jacks match the picture of the jack design that this monitor has.

Any way....
The problem has been resolved.

As for the Youtube site.........
That's not mine, though this person seems to really be into World Of Tanks.

The short answer is.... With mass production, and cheap labor, in most cases, it is cheaper to build than to repair.

one can still change the front glass on a smart phone but that's just about it in 2018. On the flip side, we have never had such a large selection of prebuilt electronic modules and boards and dev kits.

The bonus about today's electronics is that most of the problems are broken solder joints or the old standby, electrolytics. Wife's phone started having problems charging and since the microUSB plug started to wiggle, but only in her phone, I ordered a new charging daughter board. It was harder to get the darn connector back on than it would have been to re solder the socket. Ya know, there's something to be said in defense of mechanical stability. SMD and lead free wave flow is not the most reliable for stand alone connectors.
