i have a old Kenwood KRC-1003 , the tuner has died, i really liked the stereo, it is a old cassette old school radio. its been in my wagon for years. the tuner is too tiny to service. anyway i found another just like it, but different model # KRC-2003
i been looking on line for quite a while now, but i cannot find out what the differences are in these radios.
i think there is also a KRC-3003
can anyone help me figure out the differences.. thanks..

Re: Kenwood car stereo Question..
Hmmm.............
It's been quite awhile since I worked on a car radio.
But with a lot of those tuners, the grounding to the shielding would pull away.
Breaking the circuit to the main circuit board.
Yeah, it makes it a pain to work on, with all the those small SMD components,
but that was a major cause of most tuner failings, that and heat.
Sams PhotoFacts has the Service Manual for $25 plus Shipping, Handling.
The only differences I see between the KRC-1003 & KRC-2003 is that the 2003 has RCA Phono Jacks for connecting up a power amp for a subwoofer, and or speakers.
If the KRC-2003 is working.
Clean it up and use it.
Take the KRC-1003 and keep it for parts.
Or try repairing it, but I don't think finding parts will be easy.
Your best bet to find one, would be out at a Auto Parts Recycler.
I did a check on Ebay, and there is one for sale, but $400 is NuTs!
Good luck!

Pop the covers off, and look at the output IC's.
If there are burn marks.
Good bet that someone connected it up wrong.
