Forum Migration Success! :)

Post by VernGraner » Thu Dec 17, 2015 11:06 am

Hey Folks!

Just a quick heads up that we have migrated the forums to a new server. We believe it went sucesfully but I wanted to check in with you folks to make sure that everything is still in place. For the record, this is also one of the first big hurdles we had to jump in order to troubleshoot some of the *other* issues that have been plaguing the site for a while now. Hopefully we can get some work done here now that the migration is complete.

Well it looks like Bug # 2 (not getting email notification on subscribed threads) might be squashed as well since I got an email telling me about your posts!

Not a new bug but.....
Are you aware that your cannot use emoticons from a source other than what is offered in the message editor?

The preview looks fine but the SUBMIT pops up.

Everything else I've seen so far looks tuned up and running well......

Before the migration, was the ability to add an emoticon from an external source allowed? Reason I am curious is that this behavior could be a side effect of our recent move to a new server with more stringent security measures.

For example, allowing folks to embed external images could be considered a security risk e.g. "embed an icon of a smiley face that is actually a java code snippet or an overflow exploit". As such, sometimes the idea is to only allow icons that come from the server where the images live so as to be sure of their pedigree.

As I didn't directly oversee the migration I don't know if this is exactly the case, but it seems plausible.

Hi Vern,
Not 100% sure but I seem to think that was an existing glitch!

Thanks for the detailed error message! That really helps. I have forwarded it on to our web team to see if they can figure out whats going on.
