Mystic Candle

Post by Lenp »

Wife buys a candle, in a glass container. The candle wax changes color as it burns...red, green, blue....no rhyme or reason. I go to light it and it starts changing colors ....before it is lighted! It also stays on a second or two, after the match is removed!
Chemistry, alchemy, hokus-pocus...

No, it's LEDoligy.
Seems there is an embedded circuit in the wax with a light sensor that triggers the LED's to change with the candle, or a nearby match's glow... The details will be in the melted wax!
Ten yen china tech at it's finest!

And by the time the wax is gone, so is the battery.
Those color-changing LED's are awesome!

Which brings up this quandary.....
The unit has a light sensor that turns it on when the wick is lit, or there is enough ambient light. So what keeps it from latching on from it's own light? Think maybe the led's are pulsed and the sensor is gated on between the led pulses? Now, that's getting way over the top for a $3 candle!
