Toshibe laptop = toaster oven

Post by dacflyer »

i have a older toshiba satellite A105 series
the cpu fan cycled normally, but this thing is still a toaster oven.
i know the laptop warns you if fan fails, via the pulses from the fan.
but i wonder if it would get upset if i straight wired the fan to full time on..and left the pulse line connected as normal.
i looked in BIOS. and there is no fan control settings.

has anyone tried this or know of another way ?
right now i use a cooling pad for this thing normally at home.. but when traveling. this thing is unbearable...even the top gets hot..

if done properly the only consequence should be reduced battery life. Personally I would use an external fan of which there are several styles for laptops to choose from.

Dacflyer,

You should of gotten with the Laptop some Utilities that adjust the Fan, Processor, and Performance.

If not.
Here's the support page.

The Link I put in my previous posting has a LARGE listing of XP/2000 Drivers,
and App's for the Toshiba Satellite A105 series Laptop.

Your just going too have to find the one that does the fan control.

The Toshiba I'm working from right now is just that -- a toaster oven. It get really warm to the fingers at the output of the fan's airflow. I've a feeling that it's part of the package!

i am about to pop mine open soon and straight wire the fan, but leave the yellow wire connected as is,, so the cpu does not get angry that it does not detect a fan.. i hope as long as it sees pulses, it will be ok,, i hope that it does not give trouble of seeing too many pulses ( high speed )
i know it gets angry if it sees none.

i been searching for after market programs that might control the fan, but no luck yet.

If there are no fan settings in BIOS, then its unlikely there is an external program that can control the fan

Of course, chips run hotter these days that they did in the day of the 8080A and 6800. Is the computer in peril of a meltdown or just it just seem that way to you? You may be trying to repair something that isn't broken. It drives me nuts when my wife uses the laptop with it laying on a pillow or something like that where airflow is totally blocked, so certainly that can be concerns!

it just runs too hot for MY comfort, the heat blows out the left side,,also the case gets too hot to be on my lap for long.
i have used many laptops, and some are always hotter than others and some are cooler.
i just want this one to run a bit cooler if possible..
have even seen a few like mine.. ( a few models different models ) that were cooler or warmer.
so i am not sure what is supposed to be normal.
