Those sound like "Picture Formats".

Check the settings in Avast for: "Skip Gif & other picture formats".

I believe they did this too save time on a scan, if you had a bunch of photo's.

i took a look at the posted link, it yielded no help.
also i noticed that on the report page, where you can slide columns over, some how they have bunched up together, now i cannot drag them back apart so i can read the files.
but if i hover over the file i can see the whole text.

also the directions say that i could highlight and then choose a action...there is no actions to choose.,WTH is going on with this thing...

Try changing the screen resolution to a higher or lower setting.

This is sounding more and more like some kind of virus, or malware.

Try to get too Avast! into the Text only program, and run a DEEP Scan.
You may need to get into "Safe Mode" first before doing it.

If nothing is detected.
Head over to http://www.cybertechhelp.com/forums/
Goto the the Malware Removal Forum and ask for help there.
They will probably want to run some software on your machine that will detect virus's.

Though you could get a Free Copy of "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware".
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
Run it, and see what it may detect.

ok, i got the problem of sliding the panes around fixed,, it was another pane that i did not see that had it jammed..
i also do have malware bytes pro. and it found nothing.
the problem right now is...just not having any options to delete the files that cannot be scanned..
if i could get into c:\ system volume information, then i could do something with the files..
but i am thinking i cannot get to it thru windows

Have you got windows "Search"?

Try using "Search" adjusted for Videos, Pictures, Music.
This should bring up all the media files on the drive.

Or......

If you know where the files in question are, kinda.
Go to the "Windows Explore" and search through the Hard Drive to the file locations.

It sounds like a hidden directory.

Go into your Control Panel.
Then open up Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders.
Make sure Show Hidden Files and Folders is selected.
Hit the Apply button, then the OK button.

Now try searching for the files.

In the Search use *.png, *.gif, *.Tif, or other Picture Format to find them.

Yes,
That is what windows calls it as the default.

Hmmm.....

Are you able too get to DOS?
Or run the Command Prompt Window?

If so....
Type in at the Prompt: CD\ Enter.
This should bring you back to C:\
Now type: DIR/A/P Enter.
This will list the Directories off of the Root Directory even the Hidden Directories.
It will also pause the page, till you tap the space bar too scroll down to the next page.

Once you locate the directory.
Type: CD\{Name of Directory} Enter.
Then do another, type: DIR/A/P Enter.

Yes, this is time consuming, but it maybe the only way to find those files. :(
And you will have too really dig through a lot of directories find them. :x

Once you find them.
Type: DEL C:\{Name of Directory}\*.gif or DEL C:\{Name of Directory}\*.Tif or whatever the picture format is.
To delete them.
If you want to confirm each one is deleted.
Use Type: DEL C:\{Name of Directory}\*.gif /P

NOTE: Be Careful!
Make Sure Your In The Right Directory BEFORE YOU DELETE THE FILES!

Once your done deleting those files.
Type: Exit Enter.

The Command Prompt Window will close, and you will go back to the desktop.

Good luck hunting.

"if i could get into c:\ system volume information, then i could do something with the files"

Unless you typed it wrong, there is a space between C:\ and system volume indicating that this text is not the path it is simply referring to that information on the C drive. Its likely referring to one of the Windows folders or the registry

Have we moved on? I see nothing unusual about a scanner not being able to scan files inside a password protected ZIP. Try right clicking and scanning just the file, maybe it will let you enter the password. If you don't trust the ZIP, then delete it, no fuss. If it's your protected file, then you should already know it is safe.

I hear some graphics files and PDF can contain malicious code. I don't know how that works but it may be unwise to exclude these file types.

how would i know what the password is ? i do not have a password used for windozzzz
only passwords i use are for logging into email and sites etc..
i wish there was a way to make a copy of the log, then i could post it to be seen here..then maybe get more ideas.
but i do not know how to copy the log..it won't let me do it from the avast window.
