XP question

Post by dacflyer »

is there a way to set all folders to turn off the auto arrange ?
some reason this thing likes to turn all folders to auto arrange at times.
very annoying when your searching thru pictures , files etc.

also how can i make it so that. "my pictures" "my music" "my books" folders stop reappearing.
i have deleted these folders many times and they keep coming back,. had this same problem in win98.
i forget how i had gotten rid of them, but i think it was modifying the registry.

Auto Arrange Icons
Put your cursor on the Desktop {Any where there isn't an Icon.}
Right Click.
A Scroll down menu will appear.
Scroll down to Arrange Icons By.
Take the Arrow to the next scroll down menu.
There you will find the Icon & Desk Top Settings.
Uncheck the Auto Arrange.

These are the folders under the My Documents folder right?

I've tried to get rid of them too without any success.
They just keep coming back after rebooting, or restarting Windows.

There was Power Toys that micro squish had for XP and older versions.
Don't remember if it allowed you too manipulate all the folders.

I'll see what I can find out.

hi, i have done the turn off auto arrange thing..but it seems to come back at times.
i am wondering if my thumb drive is doing it. because i share it on a few different computers.
have to pay more attention.
if it is the case i wish there was a way that it would not pick it up.,.stay as i set it thing.
i am guessing if the other computer is set to auto arrange. then my thumb drive get the command, and then i stick it in my lappy, then it too does all that also..

Hmmm......

Well why not try the PowerToy: Tweak UI.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... windows-xp
It's free, and it has some tools in it for adjusting the GUI.
So, maybe it can shut off the AUTO ARRANGE completely.
