Repeating wifi signal ?

Hi all.

I have heard more than twice that a laptop can repeat the wi-fi signal using its built-in radio/antennas. Can someone explain the way to achieve such mode with a Compaq Presario CQ50 ?
Am running Linux and the internet connection enters via USB port.
The alphabet soup -big bowl size- related to WLAN settings is well beyond my understanding.

It would be to deliver wireless internet in the house to a second laptop.

I've never heard of a laptop capability to repeat a signal. Then again, I have not heard of a lot of things.

I've used wifi range extenders in the past with good results. Newegg has some reasonable deals. I had success with this one recently for $25 on sale.
