whats the problem ??

Post by dacflyer »

i have a weird problem here, and i cannot find the problem..
when i click on a link to reply to an ad in craigs list or to contact a member in ebay. the page sits idle for a few seconds, then it opens up a bunch of windows "unable to load page"
and then i have to do a END PROGRAM after all windows have tried to open..
i cannot figgure out whats doing it..
i have used spyware blaster , spybot search and destroy , CCleaner , windows washer. and my virus scanner does not detect anything either..

i am using firefox and XP

anything else i can possibly do ??
i use ebay and CL a lot to buy and sell stuff..

Sounds like a browser hijacker. Use Hijack This and post to Bleeping Computer or
one of the other forums listed on the side of TrendMicro's HJT page. The good people
on these forums should be able to help you conquer the problem.

The guys there know more than I do.

From the link I gave you to Bleeping Computer, click the link for Welcome Guide
and it will tell you what do. Take a look at some posts to get an idea of how
the guys like to see a problem presented.

Once you are a member, post your problem and log, and someone should get
back to your thread soon.

well i did not get anywhere with my problem as far as one of the geek forums on deciphering my problem, but i decided to try some other stuff, and what ever i did cured the problem.

what did i do ?
uninstalled outlook express - tested things and the problem is cured,
but.. when i click a link. it still goes thru outlook express somehow.. i just do not have access to get into outlook express any more. but apparently my info is still in the XP somewhere.
i typically use web mail. but when i send stuff ( clicking onto a email link ) it sends thru outlook express. either way the problem is fixed..now i wonder what happens if i reinstall outlook express.
i'll let you know later on...

This sounds a lot like another file association bugaboo. Like an email link is trying to open as a web page??
Take a look at Firefox Tools>Options then the Applications tab. Scroll down and see what
application mailto is associated with.

it is associated with outlook express, but i uninstalled it.. Hmmmm
does FF have its own version it uses ( default ) either way it works now.
i usually use webmail. ( earthlink )
but since FF is using outlook express, does it save copies of sent mail ?
i remember one time asking if i wanted to compaq my folder.
( cannot remember which one. probably sent mail )
i declined the request. so if the sent mail is piling up.. where is it at ? Hmmmm

Go back to that options menu and set Firefox to use Earthlink webmail as the default for mailto.
