Sonar Distance Sensor

Post by Jared5755 »

Last Spring I saw an ad in either Servo or Nuts and Volts for a sonar distance sensor. It could measure up 15 feet (approximately) and costs around $25 or $30. It wasn't the Ping, SRF04 or SRF08. Does anyone remember what it was?

I've looked through all my old issues and can't seem to find the ad.

If not, does anyone have any recommendations for a sensor that meets those requirements? The SRF04 and SRF08 are too expensive. The Ping would probably work for me, but I wanted to see if there's anything else out there.

Thanks a lot,
Jared

Jared,

I believe you are talking about the MaxSonar EZ1 sensor.

I have it on my site or you can pick it up at Maxbotics.com.

Thank you. That one looks really good. I especially like how small it looks.

Jared,

I was very impressed with it's size, cost and capabilties. I like having a choice of ways to get the data from the sensor too. I usually use the analog voltage output...

Eddy,

I'll be buying 4 of them pretty soon. I'll probably have to use the pwm output.

Yeah, these sensors look really good. The only downfall is that they can't tell you exactly how far away something is until 6 inches. But, my application doesn't need that so I'm ok.
