Re: Help a Fellow Out
You can buy one of these for $22. They're a cheap ham radio that can be programmed for the weather freqs. They also have a FM radio in them.. You would program it to receive only and could also be used as a scanner for local Police, Fire, EMS Providing they areUHF/VHF analog https://www.ebay.com/itm...

Re: Citizens band (CB) Radio: Who still uses it?

I have an hour and a half ride to Nashville to Randolph Electronics if I want something today. Otherwise it's mail order.. Randolph has a few satellite stores that really don't have much.. Dunno how they stay open.

Re: fading away
I retired 2 years ago at 66. I stay busy with the county rescue squad (25 years) and I got elected as Constable 7 years ago... In TN Constable is a volunteer position, so I can patrol whenever I want. In between there's always somebody needing lights/sirens and radio programming...

After reading this ie reminded me of some machines I used to work on at Carrier Air Conditioning. They would pull wire off a spool, cut it to length, strip both ends, and terminate both ends with either the same or different terminals.. I can't remember the name of the machines, but I do remember th...

Have you seen this? While I don't agree with everything he's done, it still works.

One of my students made one of these, he cut the secondary off with a hacksaw being careful not to cut the primary. He wound the secondary with 2 turns of #6 thhn and it worked perfectly for his needs. He had to tie the secondary in place with wire ties to keep it tight with the core.I think the ope...

"The LEDs can glow with only microamps of current. One message in the linked forum post indicated that just touching some piece of metal to the input of these LED lights can make them glow from close-by AC voltages. The only question I have now is why it's intermittent." You say there is v...

What kind of soldering iron? How many watts ? Is the tip of the iron clean ? A dirty soldering iron tip will not transfer the heat needed to melt the solder. An adjustable one, with the temp turned way down won't work either. When you try it again, try adding a little new solder to it to help make i...
