Re: Dec 2005 issue

I checked the local Borders, and Barnes and Noble, last night and they didn't have any. The B&N's computer said they had 3 in stock, but none could be found. Looks like a good issue, am looking for one. May try Fry's tomarrow in Sacramento.

Re: Radio Shack getting out of parts supply

Its too bad. People just don't build or repair much stuff anymore.
Pretty soon at Rat Shack it will be just cell phones, electronic toys as gifts, and unusual batteries and cables.
At least until grocery stores start carrying cell phones, and then they will drop cell phones as well.
[ October ...

One of these days the automatic cameras that take pictures of red light runners will do the same for cars pretending they are emergency vehicles. If they don't do that already.

Two keychain type laser pointers epoxy glued to a ruler. One at each end, at an angle a little less than perpendicular to the ruler, measured to the center of the ruler. The angles such that they converge 100m away.
It would be held horizontally, and with a red laser on the left and a different co...

Re: Relatively Compact Power Generation Using Fuel

I was looking at US Army (DARPA) research projects a few months ago and ran accross a small electric generator they were trying to develop. It was to use a ceramic high speed impeller to work in a little turbine for powering electrical things in the field. In the order of hundreds of watts I think. ...

The self-adhesive copper foil is used by stained glass hobbiests to wrap the edge of the glass which is then soldered to the next pane.
Radio shack used to sell lead foil tape (and connectors) that would stick to the inside of glass windows for burglar alarms.
A see through robot with clear circ...

Are you talking about that article that the Egyptian pyramid was a big electonic gadget? That was a pretty bizarre story, and of course didn't quite add up.
I got the impression that some non-nerd new-age son of an owner took over the magazine and was trying to "sex up" the content.
Is...

I'm trying to be optimistic, but I'm not impressed so far. The web site is animation based and loads slowly, and there is no way to bypass this. Dial up connection is very slow.
The mechanical animation shows two toothed wheels tied together with a red belt, the toothed wheels apparently climbing ...

Its been around. I googled and found:
Reward Offered (.) A reward of 500 microfarads is offered for information leading to the arrest of Hopalong Capacity. Waste energy from an electric heater is heat, so they are essentially 100% effecient.
I like the "oil heater" type of portable electric heater. It is totally quiet, starts a little slowly but heats as well as any other, and has no glowing parts and is difficult to burn yourself on it.
...

Re: Older cpu fans with the round thing on the wire

Harbour Freight sells a 5watt 12v solar cell for about $35.00 on sale. Runs the larger computer power supply type fan quite well on sunny days to try to keep the car cooler. These fans don't use much power and using a solar p.v. panel acts as its own controller. Put one on a car last June and the gl...
