Mr Al, I remember Lafayette Radio well, infact I still have some akro-mills parts cabinets that I purchased from the warehouse store on Long Island back in the 60's. In the early 70's I was stationed on the Alaskian island of Attu, had a FPO(fleet post office address0 and I used to mail order from t...

I just remembered that I have made latching relays out of normal DPDT relays. First you get a relay of 1/2 the voltage you are working with. put a resistor in series with the coil, the resistance is the same as the relay coil resistance. Then you get two normally open (NO) push buttons. Wire the con...

Robert you might want to consider a MC1490 or it's sister the MC1350 RF/IF amplifier. The characteristics for gain looks close, and it has a DC voltage AGC control. If you think it might work for you, I have a number of each in my stock of parts if you would like to try them.

I have seen and used 3 types of latching relays. The first kind is a mechanical latching with an impulse coil. One impulse on the coil latches it and the next impulse unlatches it. The second type uses a magnet for latching. A dc voltaqe of one polarity applied to the coil latches it. Applying the d...

Another neat thing about blinking LED's is that you can put other LED's in series with them and all the LED's will blink at the same flash rate as the
blinking LED. You can mix colors also.

Another solution that I don't think has been addressed is restrict the flow of water to the shower head. I have done this and I never run out of hot water with a gas water heater. Even in a travel trailer the water heater is small(something like 6 gallon). Once the water is hot and with the proper s...

The circuit for my coloidial silver generator is a LM7805 set of as a constant current source with a 270 resistor. In series with the output is a LED. When power is first applied with the electrodes in the 1 cup of distilled water the LED is out as no current flows. Adding a few grains of salt the L...

I agree that a tens unit may heal the pain, but I have seen them help with the endurance of pain. I have built a number of experimental units. The reason the commercial ones are expensive is that they require FDA approval to be on the market. But a doctors prescription to a durable medical supply ho...

Get two flashing LED's of the same color. Connect them in parallel, wire them in series with a orange LED and a 9V battery. It will last for days. When the power is first turned on the orange LED flashes normally, but in a short time the two flashing LED's get out of sync with each other and the ora...

I do not know what the refridgerante(sic) for the RV's, but they use heat from a propane burner or a AC heater when switched to AC power to do the cooling. I have a 2006 travel trailer that the refridgerator works extremely well. It has a small freezer, about 1.5 cu/ft. It will freeze ice cubes in a...

Going a little bit farther, motor start capacitors are generally high values around 300uF, and are generally switched out of the circuit once the motor is turning. There are motor run capacitors are also used and are generally about 7uF in value and are always in the circuit. The do the same provide...

caps(short for capacitors) or in the old days when I started out in electronics they were called condensers. In simple terms a capacitor opposes any change in voltage. It does that by charging to the new level when the voltage in the circuit tries to rise. It discharges when the voltage in the circu...

Perhaps a C size alkaline and a resistor may work, a the normal C size alkaline has a capacity of 7AH(amp-hours. So a 1.5 ohm resistor would
produce 1 watt/hour.
