Jimandy,
I believe that I may have a IBM 5" monochrome VGA model 8513, or similar. Maybe even 2.
They were used on IBM Personal Word Processors, are B/W CRT's with standard VGA input
If you are interested let me know and I'll dig for them! .

Re: Close packing of relays
Years ago we used a design with 36 rather inexpensive Omron GL series relays. They were packed side by side, back to back on a board with just enough space between to allow insertion. The design was generic so AC and DC relays were both used on the same board foil pattern. Never was there a problem ...

Re: Time Base
Phil, You are correct in that the processor was busy making the output pulse while the timing pulses were slipping by. I'm not clear what your suggestion of the addition of a processor to the working 4017 divider chain would accomplish. I am getting the output pulse using an AND gate with one input ...

Re: Secret to using pure carbide drill bits revealed
Robert, The first thing to do is to determine if there is wear or slop in the quill bearings. Insert a length of clean round ground steel shaft stock 6" or so into the chuck. Set up a dial indicator to measure the distant end of the shaft while you apply lateral pressure to the chuck, not the r...

Re: Secret to using pure carbide drill bits revealed
In a previous thread I mentioned that I used the carbide bits with very little breakage in old bench drill press with a 1/2" chuck. A good drill chuck and low shaft runout is the real key to success. Many drill presses on the market today have cheap chucks so consider an upgrade. Years ago I tw...

Re: Time Base
Thanks Philba and Al for your input. The appliccation is a drive pulse to a mechanical device that accumulates elapsed time. Since the accuracy need not be better than a typical wall clock, I decided to use 60hz because the long term accuracy is adequate and the cost is nil since the device needs a ...

Time Base
I need a 1 pulse per minute time base for a clock project. A string of 4017 counters was used to count to 60hz line (/10/10/6/6). A jumper changes the divider to /10/10/5/6 for 50hz. I used a transistor in an 'and' circuit to get a pulse from the last counter's output and the previous counter to cre...

Re: opnions wanted on battery reviving of NiCads
For what it's worth, a friend purchased several H/F cordless drills last year. Within a year or so, the chargers all failed. The thermal protectors in the transformers opened. Every battery pack had one or more shorted cells and they overloaded the chargers. The charger is a simple FWB supply with n...

Re: opnions wanted on battery reviving of NiCads
Dacflyer, Before you get too into this project check out http://www.primecell.com .(No interest, they are a N&V advertiser) They can rebuild most tool battery packs for about YOUR cost for the cells. and, without welded links it may be a tight squeeze. We are using several rebuilt B&D/Dewald...

Re: making an lcd TV into a message board?
Hi Guys,
This has been an interesting thread but a question arises. What is an easy way to rotate the screen data 90 degres so the display can be used vertically as usually seen on airport arrival/departure boards?

Re: Is RadioShack that confused?
An Aside... My wife needed a DMP printer for work, for forms processing. They HAD to buy from Office Depot because of a procurement contract. When she called the 800 line to talk to a printer specialist, about an Okiidata printer they proudly informed her that it could do 540 copies per second. I su...

Re: Help with RJ45 Network Connector
Al,
I have not seen the any RJ plugs with solder terminals but the jacks are available with IDC as well as PCB terminals
The common wall plate jack is even available as a tool-less connector. Just dress the wires, close the cap and the wires are pressed into place.
