Re: Inverters state of art 250watt

Go to Don Lancaster's page , and read about Magic Sinewaves.
Without a transformer the DC supply (batteries) will have to be 345V with center tap for common. Vpeak = 120VACrms * 1.414 = 172.8V Vtotal = |+172.8V| + |-172.8V| = 345.6V, "|" for absolute value.
Not being able to step-up/st...

Re: Hints for a rookie writer?

Using your post as an example, I'd say you write well.
Take your "3) Hobbiests actually care about what they are doing and go about it purposefully. My favorite kind of people." On first pass I'd have probably made it one sentence. The way you did it is how I was taught in Effective Writ...

Re: GFCI question

Codes vary city to city, but I've never heard of non-metalic boxes being legal before 3 wire cable became mandatory. Maybe they're replacements.
My mother's house is over a 100 years old. The wires, as you said, are insulated with braid. The outer jacket is spiral steel. The upgrade to 3 prong out...

Re: Stray 110 voltage

With the source neutral open, the loads on the two 115V phases are in series, with 220V on them. Loads on the phases are seldom exactly equal. The neutral line is then just the voltage divider point between the loads. It was probably 50-50 that the motor didn't move versus burn up/blow fuse.
Had a...

Is the sequence 1 (half) N (half) 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 ?
That'll makes things a little more complicated.

Re: Stray 110 voltage

DEFINITELY DO NOT connect the neutral that comes out of the GFI to any other neutrals (neither from a non-GFI circuit, nor from a different GFI). The possible imbalance in return current will cause false GFI tripping.
In any case the wiring should look like a tree. Branches are okay, but branches ...

"What is strange to me, is the stray digital voltage at the junction box was 5 volts and now at the fountain 25 feet away it is 1.3. Strange."
With black open (power off), the black wire at the pump its a 25ft. antenna. At the junction box its a 50ft. antenna. At the pump is less than ha...

Re: Need low cost torrids

A Hammond 182T24 , 48VCT, 13.02A toriod transformer is 6.1 inches outside diameter, 3.1 inches high, 10.38 pounds.
Perhaps you where thinking a toriod would be smaller than a regular transformer because the toriods in switching supplies (like in PCs) are small. The difference is that switching sup...

Did you tell them 60Hz "120VAC primary, 40VCT 10A secondary"?
If you did, then $65 is cheap. The thing must be half the size of a soccer ball! (if you mean a line transformer.)
[ August 28, 2004: Message edited by: Dale Y ]

Is there a temperature gauge on the dash, or is it just an over-temp idiot light?
If idiot light, you might have to change the sender. -------------------------------- With a linear sender where the voltage goes lower for higher temps; you would need an op amp to invert and scale the voltage, an a...

Re: Offset voltage on voltage follower

I'm confused! Are we reading the transducer, or driving the transducer???
Read the posts. It does say "sort of" output TO new transducer 0.5 to 3.5. But if this is the case, what does the 1K load have to do with anything??
It might help if I knew what that transducer was.
Cheers,
[...
