Re: To PCB or not to PCB...

More about DIY Boards... I agree that a double sided board, with fine line artwork, screens and plated through holes is beyond the DIYer in most cases. But, not all boards need that complexity! If you need just one board for evaluation, the board does not have file line artwork, you need it today, n...

Re: Is RadioShack that confused?

Enough blasting Radio Shack! They are a simple retail store, just like McDonald's Think not? .. Did you ever get a burger that looked like the pictures on the wall? So why would you ever think the pictures should match the product. I had a catalog that said in small print (product shipped may not be...

Re: Help with RJ45 Network Connector

Mr Al

Use a wall plate mounted jack..(plate optional)
Many come with a plastic punch-on tool if you don't already have one

Re: Sorry, could not resist to post...

Bob, Thanks for the neat tip! I forgot that I used same technique years ago to test flashbulbs, it works great. Dacflyer, Yes, since I quit smoking a half a lifetime ago, I have run out of those handy foil repair kits. Gee, I wonder if they were really semi-conductors, since, one side conducted and ...

Re: To PCB or not to PCB...

Kheston, If you'll search this forum for Blue Transfer Paper , (Mr Al was the original poster), there is much info. I have great success with a vertical tank, aquarium heater and nitrogen bubbles. An aquarium pump also works well. With fresh amonium persulfate etching time can be as short as 15 minu...

Re: Dremel "WorkStation" ?

By the way...
I also have a vintage Unimat SL lathe that converts easily to a drill press. It works great for those "small as a hair" drill bits!

Re: Help with RJ45 Network Connector

Al, Here's yet another fix..

Cut off the damaged plug
Terminate the cut end of the cable in a jack
Use another cable from the jack to the system

Re: SDHC Card failure

I gave up on the card! I cannot reformat it because nobody sees it! The camera says NO CARD and the computer says...nothing. Other cards, same make/model work in all the readers I have. It is a Transcend model with a lifetime warranty so it went back to them. By the way, if you use their website to ...

Re: Dremel "WorkStation" ?

Hi guys, I have an older, probably made in the 50's Atlas drill press with a 1/2" chuck. It is all cast iron, weighs a ton and has near zero chuck runout. I use resharpened cabide biits and rarely break one unless I do something dumb like move the board before the bit clears. The bits easily ce...

Re: SDHC Card failure

Thanks guys, Yes, the protection switch is on. The card cannot be identified by any computer or camera. The card is nearly nes and there is no damage to the finger contacts. I really think the card was electrically damaged in the kiosk since the images could be read by the camera just before trying ...

Re: This I did not know about variacs...

Ceasar, Likely it was used for light dimming. These were plentiful years ago for stage and studio lighting control since they were way more efficient than series resistors, or salt baths or tanks that were used eons ago. There always wasn't solid state! It's also possible that it was also used for a...

Re: This I did not know about variacs...

Dean, The line losses are only part of the reason the intercoms use the 25V system. Since every remote station returns to a selector switch panel as a home run, and there can be hundreds, the switches are small (25 in a 1 RU space) and can cary only low currents. Additionally, these systems can be c...

SDHC Card failure

Help! I have an 4G SDHC card that has (had) a ton of pictures. I plugged it into a Kodak Kiosk and it kept saying "Please Insert Camera Card". The card had images, that were previously viewed on the camera before the kiosk visit. Now the card is not recognized by anything, camera, laptop o...

Re: This I did not know about variacs...

Dean,

The 25 volt speaker distribution system is most exclusively used in commercial intercom systems. Bogen, Rauland, Dukane, Telecor and most other big system use it. I have box full of these transformers, Need some?
