Re: home brew CRT rejuvinator ?
I have a Heathkit rejuvinator that worked well most of the time. The bigest issue was the never ending array of sockets. I made a mini-clip harness for those that didn't match the sockets I had Generally, it elevated the filament voltage and passed a high current through the cathode to 'clean and re...

Re: Data Transfer From old to new hard drive
Before you go over the edge, try this.... I have pulled many drive's data out of the grave with an external USB adapter. There are many and they all seem to work equally. I recently had a laptop drive that kept thrashing on boot. Replaced the drive, loaded the OS and used the external adapter to rec...

Hijacked Browser!
Help! I have a Vista machine that has the browser(s) hijacked. With Google or Yahoo any link I click lands me elsewhere. If it's a bad link the browser fails to respond. I've run a number of software apps that are supposed to clean this up and most of them find different 'bugs' and removes them but ...

Dacflyer,
Not sure about shortening the cable but we add about 7 feet (cut-n-splice) to several antennas with no change in signal strength.

Re: Recording Video surveillance
A thought! Some years back I designed a circuit that used a common motion detector to triger a micro processor. The processor started the vcr in record mode and as long as there was motion the recorder ran. After the motion stopped a delay was started and the recorder was stopped. One tricky issue i...

Re: Wireless HVAC Fan controller
How about using a thermostat to sense the air ahead of the fan? I did a job last year in a factory with 20 ceiling fans that were interlocked with the HVAC system through a thermostat. When the discharge temp got to about 90, the ceiling fans came on. Need it in both summer and winter, just use two ...

Re: LEDs vs. bulbs
Well I sure don't think that CFL's are the answer! I've had 3 'name brand' units fail within a year. So off to the landfill with the haz-mat mercury, PCB components and non- ROHS construction. There is energy savings but the the cost of ownership is high! Do you really think it costs less to make a ...

Re: Robo calls to go illegal, HURRAY! Finally!
Am I cynical... Yes Another likely un-enforcable law. I am on the 'Do not call' list and still get calls. Many are from Canada tele-crappos. They will openly tell you they don't give a da...d about US laws. How about the telephone companies that supply their service without caller ID! You are going ...

Re: How to connect RCA Audio to Telco Line?
Connecting a transformer directly across a T/R telephone line may not always be advisable. For one thing it will seize the line and create a busy condition. Additionally, the DC loop current can saturate some smaller transformers and lower or distort the audio. A better arrangement may be to use the...

Re: Where to put jumpers on a hard drive for slave?
As an aside... I always set the BIOS to AUTO for the hard drives. One of my systems has both the MASTER and SLAVE hard drives(s) on slide out racks. One MASTER is a Win XP, another is Win98. another is Linux and yes one is still MS DOS. The SLAVES are used for data storage only. With the AUTO settin...

Biophase... Give us some more info, like tension range, accuracy, cost point ... Are you interested in a high tech gadget or just a crude but a git-er-done job? You may need to use amplifiers and a comparator to monitor the signal from the strain gauge or maybe just use a photo interrupter or micros...

Ah, I put the keyfob in my mouth and bite down on the button. If I turn my head to the side it gets better range. Maybe my head acts like a resonant cavity driving an earmitter!

Re: lawn mower IGN coils
Dacflyer, I was not aware of the module-in-the coil design, but I would still think that the HV side would ring to ground unless components on the primary side clamp the ringing pulse. Assuming the module eliminates the points then the magnetic pulses are conditioned and timed by 'technical magic' :...

Re: Web Host Opinion? (No Not Spam!)
CeaSar Interesting report, but, I must wonder about it's accuracy! The hosting rate is way higher in the report than the Fat Cow price on their site (Under $4 / mo) , and confirmed today by their sales rep. They have both Stateside and offshore (who doesn't) support but for $3 per month additional t...
