Re: Atomic Time
Dean,
In Sep 04 Servo, DARPA Grand Challenge, Robo-Magellan - Part 2, Michael Miller talks about using a Garmin GPS18 OEM unit. No mention of price, but less than $5000 I'd guess. www.garmin.com/manuals/GPS18_TechnicalSpecification.pdf and www.garmin.com/products/gps18oem links given.
Cheers,

Re: Atomic Time
Does 5000 meters ring a bell?
Speed of light in vacuum = 300000KM/Sec = 3.0e8M/Sec
Period of 60KHZ = 1 /60000Hz = 1.6666666667e-5Sec
Wavelength = 1.6666666667e-5Sec * 3.0e8M/Sec = 5e3M = 5000 meters
Cheers,

Re: Atomic Time
A telescoping whip antenna would be HF, a ferrite bar with wire wrapped around it for an antenna would be 60KHz as you say.

It is VERY unlikely that another receiver across the street would have any effect.
www.boulder.nist.gov/timefreq/ doesn't mention any new transmitters.
The average height of the ionosphere changes from summer to winter. Right now you're probably getting a direct ionosphere bounce instead of a r...

Re: Yet another LED question.
50V or 63V rating, 100V okay. EWAG 0.047uF to 0.1uF. Ceramic, paper, mylar or poly.

Re: Need low cost torrids
dacflyer,
Thanks, I think. But not too often please. It makes my head fat, then I make a big embarrasing mistake. I could just answer with just the numbers, but then others here (lurkers included) couldn't figure out how for themselves. It helps me too. I get to exercise skills unused since colleg...

Re: Need low cost torrids
(corrections in bold ) No. You said bridged which I take to mean each OPA549 drives one speaker lead and one OPA549 goes positive while the other negative. The 6.25Apeak flows through both OPA549s. Ppeak = 50Vpeak * 6.25Apeak = 321.5Wpeak to speaker. Pcontinuous = 321.5Wpeak * 0.707 = 240W <<Wrong! ...

A 12V lead-acid battery fully charged, but has rested since the charging was stopped will actually be about 12.2V to 12.4V.
To recharge the battery after use, the voltage must be greater than the battery voltage. The battery has internal resistance to overcome, but mostly it takes more voltage to ...

Yes, I should have said 14V for when truck is running. Can actually be like 14.5V at the battery, but I used minimum LED drop of 3.7V.

Re: Need low cost torrids
The voltage you said in your first post (40V CT) was right. 60V * 0.707 = 42.42V, so a 36V to 40V transformer keeps you under the ±30VDC limit. (The transformer spec probably says 115V or 117V primary. But the power line can actually be 110V to 125V(?). Building a slightly lower voltage supply stops...

Re: Inverters state of art 250watt
Go to Don Lancaster's page , and read about Magic Sinewaves.
Without a transformer the DC supply (batteries) will have to be 345V with center tap for common. Vpeak = 120VACrms * 1.414 = 172.8V Vtotal = |+172.8V| + |-172.8V| = 345.6V, "|" for absolute value.
Not being able to step-up/st...
