Re: Temperature comparison, differential
Thomas, I designed a similar circuit and published it in the May 2001 edition of "Q & A" in Poptronics magazine. I've posted the schematic at http://167.206.219.243/forums/electronic_bench/posts/524.html
This is a thermistor-based circuit designed to turn a ceiling fan on if the tem...

Re: serial-to-tape? using basicx-24
Try some Internet research of the old "Kansas City Standard", a popular method of storing data on standard audio cassettes during the heyday of Altair, IMSAI, Processor Technology, etc. of the mid-1970's. Seems to me that there were some construction articles in the early days of Byte maga...

Re: parabolic microphone
There were two from the 1960's as I recall. Electronics Illustrated had one using a "parabolic" reflector which was actually a stainless steel mixing bowl. Popular Electronics had "The Shotgun Sound Snooper" which used resonant tubes formed into a rifle-mic, said to have better p...

Re: Volt to Freq
I'm just curious. What's the application that requires that kind of open-loop precision?

Re: Question about a Headlight modulator schematic
The fact that the cap is ceramic or Z5U shouldn't affect things other than frequency. The Z5U ceramic isn't a leaky cap compared to polyester ... it just has a nasty tempco. And the danged thing changes capacitance value depending upon the dc voltage applied.
Dean

Re: welcome
I wouldn't concern myself with a 3-phase design for a residence anyway. Most power companies will only drop 3-phase service to industrial concerns, irrigation pumps, oil wells or large buildings that can justify the expense of their installing three transformers. And if there isn't a 3-phase line al...

Re: Question about a Headlight modulator schematic
I hate to sound ignorant, but exactly what does a "headlight modulator" do? My first impressions are that it's illegal to use in a private vehicle as most state make flashing white lights on the front of a vehicle legal only for fire, police, EMT and coronors' vehicles .... even volunteer ...
