Re: Here I go again! Differnt direction though...haha
Hey Dac....thanks for stopping by... Yep, we have some yard lights, but none in the area of where I'm at, and of course NONE to be had in budget..haha...always the same answers--not allowed for in the budget... Ceasar....on no problem my good fellow...I appreciate any comments, ideas, etc. and may y...

Re: Here I go again! Differnt direction though...haha
Hmmm....very good...I have done a little towards that area in past (we have yellow reflective material--the strips that are on all rail cars now along their bottom edges) and they are very reflective. I have attached some of them to the rails and with some pretty good lights they do help. But I gues...

Here I go again! Differnt direction though...haha
If feasible, need to come up with something that might not be too expensive, so I can rig up myself. Then maybe convince higher-ups to help me more... Where I sit in a tower, I have several railroad tracks just to my left, that feed into one lead, or ladder as we call it. A small railyard...the trac...

Re: Relay circuit needed to mute speaker outs
Wow again! Thanks fellas... Miguel...I can see how to set up with that diagram, but the hard part for me is trying to find which contacts/wires, etc. off the switch to use, or how they work. You see, this KEY switch is centered OFF, flips to left for AUDITION mode (which I'm not currently using), an...

Relay circuit needed to mute speaker outs
Now for my next part of my broadcast project... I need to build a circuit that will cut the audio outputs from my broadcast console, out to a stereo receiver/speaker room monitor setup. I have a key switch that when engaged to talk on mic, needs to cut the feed. Is there a simple way I can put this ...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Let's see where we are at now in last couple of days: I've learned that I am real good at tearing something apart, and going back with something that can easily be looked upon as "why in the h-e-double-ell would he do something like that for?" (hehe)... Bought myself a four-channel headpho...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Wow! Thanks guys...lot to absorb there, and I'll have to find me a quiet spot sometime and juggle it around in my head. I'm sure I'll need it soon, BUT...for now SUCCESS has been achieved! I have my audio running in two separate feeds, even built in my CMOY headphone amp, AND now computer is running...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Again, many thanks guys...I don't have tech stuff like scopes and such (hmmm...wish I did though), other than a DMM, and again, at my age, my learning of ohms and impedances is troubling. I've always been fairly lucky at "fixing" or modifying things with my "jack-of-all-trades-master-...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Ah ha! You might be on to something there...I'm thinking it's still wired in the original format (divider, which I don't quite understand) but since I did some extensive "remods" then I believe I need to change it to "series"... Inputs balanced? I don't think so...CD player comes...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
No, nothing like that in place. Basically all I have is audio feeding in, through one master/multi-routing switch for the particular channel, then thru a Prog/Aud selector switch, then through the master vol. pot on out. I want to think I'm missing the basics on wiring a pot. Since the pot is a vari...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Thanks Miguel...I feel a little better now...whew! But I tell you folks, the deeper I go, the further I seem to get away from anything that I thought I used to have a grasp on...for example; This is baffling me to no end--I have my main audio feed that exits the input/output L/R boards, and tied int...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Console is Harris Stereo 80. I found a PDF manual on-line (not sure of link at this moment, but found it by googling the "Harris Stereo 80" phrase and it came right up). Not sure if it would help you since I've done some pretty drastic changes to it. Again, mainly I have too low a level to...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
The Shallco is one of the most "important" parts of this effort. Let me explain: This console is the focal point of my internet radio station-but with a twist. It's going to be "run" just like a station did in the seventies. Yes, I could have done it much easier with a modern boa...

Re: Help with analog VU meters
Hey...nice to "see" you again my friend, and thanks much for the help... Not sure of the channel input levels, but on this console I believe everything is based on 600ohms. But, I've removed anything that altered my signal (a 600:150 ohm transformer that fed into the Shallco attenuator), a...

Help with analog VU meters
Moved past one hurdle, now onto I hope a bit easier ground... Using an old mixer, and a consumer cd deck input to it. The -10 level will barely move the VU needles when plugged directly to the meters, so when I input to the console, the meter activity is near nothing. Routing is pretty simple now; t...
