Re: Motherboard fan tachometer add-on
I'm assuming that you are refering to the 3 pin MB connection for the CPU fan. The wire colors are red (fan power), black (ground), and white OR yellow (tach out from fan).
Do NOT apply any voltage to the tach terminal. Damage to motherboard might result. As far as I can determine, his connection ...

Re: Question about etching boards
Mike,
The first time that you accidentally spill a few drops of etchant on your clothes, you'll be glad that you bought the "expensive" ammonium persulfate instead of ferric chloride. Clothes are even more expensive. Ammonium persulfate is clear in color and does not leave stains.
I us...

Re: PCB Layout Software???
All,
I have tried the free version of the Eagle 4 capture program for schematics but I have not tried the layout software. Apparently the layout software limits you to just a few square inches of board and two layers. Does anyone know if silkscreen layers and solder mask layers count as used layer...

Re: I want to make a Cable tester
NQ, I have some questions first:
What is the range of length of the cables?
Will both ends of the same cable be available to be plugged into a test box? I am asking this because some cables like the multi-pin cables you describe are actually installed in buildings with their ends in different ro...

Re: fireworks controller question (oh no not again)
Zot, you probably know this but you have to be very careful controlling the ignition of explosives. So it alarms me that you are using relays in a 20 X 20 grid.
I designed a sound room speaker switcher for a stereo store back in the '70s using a grid of relays switching on different row/column com...

You might also check the ceramic or crystal cartridge. When I was about 12, we had one that needed a lot of amplification, and the sound was a bit distorted. Turns out the crystal was cracked.
Bob

Re: 220 Volt Appliance to 110V
Jeff,
The smartest way to do this is with an autotransformer. These differ from a regular power transformer in that they are smaller and lighter and do not have any input-to-output isolation. You don't need isolation because your HP power supplies probably have isolation built in.
Autotransforme...

You cannot twist together regular neutrals With GFI neutrals.
