Re: Mechanical equivalent of impedance matching?

Hi Externet. I don't think there is a bow and arrow equivalent to impedance matching. With electrical impedance matching, maximum energy is transferred to the load when the load impedance is equal to the output impedance of the driver circuit. The driver's circuit's impedance absorbs an equal amount...

Re: 4066 switching ic protection

Simple:

Find the IC manufacturer's web site and download the datasheet for the IC. Look at the "absolute maximum ratings" table. Do not exceed the maximum ratings for the IC.

Re: Ammonium Persulfate disposal

We may as well go off-topic even further. There are a few items that you probably don't find in today's science classes that you did find in the '60s. How about Asbestos pads to place under that bunsen burner. Liquid mercury for making a class barometer with a pool of mercury at the bottom. Generati...

Philba, [QUOTE]Originally posted by philba: [QB] When it's spent, its gone. Have you ever tried feeding aluminum to ammonium persulphate or ferric chloride etchants? DON'T FEED THEM TOO MUCH AT ONCE! Re: Radio Shack still has parts!

There are no more "Radio Shacks" in Canada as far as I know. They are all called "The Source by Circuit City" now. Same stuff, changed name. In Canada or where I've been in Washington or San Jose, never did see a Radshack selling parts out of drawers, only blisterpacks hanging on...

Re: GFCI installation on a two wire system?

Dean, For the 1918 bathroom I think it would be better to install a GFCI breaker right in the electrical panel and leave the ungrounded receptacles in place. However, the GFCI breakers are expensive in comparison with the common cheap GFCI receptacles and you might need to replace the FUSEBOX with a...

Re: I am claiming dunce of the week

The mind sometimes works in strange ways, at least mine does especially about making technical mistakes due to technical memories altering with age. So I figure it's a good idea to refer to a text or two next time I start typing out technical formulas and explanations about stuff like "Q"....

Re: A better way to defrost rear car windows?

Doesn't anyone in the US use plastic frost shields stuck to the inside of the car windows? Or are they only sold in the colder parts of Canada? They are passive devices.
Bob

Re: how to measure Q value?

I'm assuming that the L and C and R are wired in parallel. Q is "Quality". D=1/Q where D is the damping factor. (This sentence has been edited due to errors)
(Paragaph removed due to errors.)
To put it another way, the R in your circuit is probably installed there a a Damping resistor....

The GFCI can only protect you if a fault occurs downstream from the GFCI. If a dog chews on your extension, it would be better for the dog if the GFCI were at the source.
A GFCI works like this: A GFCI compares the current through the black wire (hot wire) with the current going through the white ...

Re: Anyone remember those 8-to-12 ft. backyard satellite dis

Hey Chris,
How long did it take to glue on the estimated 15,000 1 inch square tiles onto the 10 foot dish? Mine is an 8 section steel dish and I was thinking of chroming it. Hmm...Just thinking of cutting up all those glass mirror tiles makes my fingers bleed. The parabolic reflector COULD make a ...
