Cheap Telephone Microphones

I have salvaged several microphone elements from cheap electronic telephones.
I need information as to impedence, are they electret, etc. I would like to be able to use one of these mics with a tape recorder and possibly later with a digital recorder of some kind.
Is some circuitry needed to int...

Re: Smiling So Hard my Face is gonna Break

Congrats and cool (pun intended!)
I expect to have to go to liquid cooled on my next computer whenever I can afford it.
The next thing I want though is some way to get the hot air out of my box and OUTSIDE the house. My room heats up noticably when I have my main box going. Turn on a second one ...

Overhead Door Opener Controller Question

A neighbor gave me a Model 551 Overhead Door Corp. garage door opener which I have stripped down to the controller board. I want to get this working so I can use the remote control. I would have assumed that I should be able to get a control signal out that might be just a quick pulse but can't find...

Re: Wireless voice control

Getting thoughts and ideas based on the comments - thanks.
Here some additional thoughts/limitations.
I kind of think the voice recognition is not that far off. A friend told me of his cell phone having the capability to (without training) accept commands such as "dial Paul". He says h...

Wireless voice control

Looking for thoughts on how to do the following.
I am slightly aware of HAL, so this might be a starting component (?)
I would like to be able to wear a "headset" around, (like on cell phones) and be able to use it to talk to my PC. The PC would then follow my commands. I am interested...

Re: R/C Transmitter Blackbox w/ Computer Interface

Don't know if this will help or even apply but look into model train equipment. Railking and Lionel both have extensive lines of model train control equipment. Not sure about the wireless part though.
HTH
Paul Hurm

Re: X10 question

I have not used X-10 extensively but have heard of the following possibility. Hope I explain it correctly.
Most houses have a 220v lead in with household 110v being split across the two sides. X-10 signals are known to not travel across such sides without a special bridging device. If your control...

"flashing" LED

I got tired of the light bulb burning out in my small flashlight so I broke open a dead bulb and soldered a LED in place. I did not put in any kind of current limiting resistor, just an LED.
This worked fine for about 5 or 10 minutes total of intermittant use. At that point the LED started strobin...

Re: Digital Pagers - Technical Info

Thanks, these two article references are helpful. Interestingly, the May article is downloadable from the Elektor site.
Both these articles seem to be mobile phone related. They refer to "SMS" as the method used for phone text messaging. Is this the same process used for pagers? If so I'...

Digital Pagers - Technical Info

This is a hypothetical question – I do not actually plan to transmit on the frequency mentioned but want to understand the technical details behind the processes involved.
I have a “number only” pager that simply displays the phone number that the caller punches in. This pager operates on a freque...

PIC or Stamp

Open: (can of worms)
I have a reasonably good background in electronics and a pretty full junk box. I now want to explore either PICs or Stamps. I have "limitations" as indicated below but would like suggestions regarding which way to go first.
I know this could probably generate lots ...
