Monitoring Water Current direction and speed
Good thoughts. My house happens to be on the lagoon so I have a secure spot to monitor from and as it happens, my neighbor (who drafted me into this) has line of sight to the entire lagoon (peninsula) so I could always monitor from that point. I didn't think the RF would work over 8 miles of lagoon ...

Monitoring Water Current direction and speed
First, thanks everyone for the comments. I hadn't thought of the twisting, but you are right. I can't use GPS since at least two of the sensors will have to be located near the bottom. One area is a freshwater inflow from a lake and the other is salt from the gulf. I'll need to figure out where the ...

Monitoring Water Current direction and speed
I have gotten involved with a project to monitor water quality in a lagoon. In addition to the usual chemistry fun, I'd like to monitor the water current direction and if possible, the speed. I'm going to need quite a few of the sensors, so cost is an issue. My current plan is to install about 10 of...

Coupling wind speed to fountain pump
In the winter, my fountain tends to lose water due to an increase in wind speed. While the pump shuts off when the level drops too low, I was thinking of trying to couple the pump to a wind speed indicator. So if the wind speed exceeds 10mph, the pump shuts off. Anyone done something similar ? Begin...
submarine
My son and I built one a while ago and have another in construction. Look for the submarine links. This one http://www.hrfsbo.com/sub/ is pretty good. I don't like the ballast tank system but if you must... you must. (I prefer to just use bilge pump motors to push it up/down, at 70 ft, I never got a...

Interfacing a PC to a Sonar unit
I've got a PC on my boat for navigation and for the underwater camera. I recently decided to replace my sonar unit and was a bit disappointed in the feature/price set. Lot of money. Does anyone know of either a way to interface a standard sonar transducer to a PC or, any PC products that do so ? My ...

Switching Video Feeds
I have a single TV in the living room and I would like to set up a video switcher so I can cycle through 3 different video feeds, 2 from video cameras and one from the weather station software (PC). I'd like to cycle through about 20 seconds for each and be able to stop on one if needed. Anyone eith...

Sound Activated Switch - Underwater
Another underwater question... We have a pod that has a camera on the bottom of a newly established reef. The coax is connected to a buoy which gets cut off or ripped up pretty regularly. I was wondering if there was a simple switch circuit that would allow me to "ping" the box, and have i...

Re: Solar charger switch
Sorry: I was on the road and it took a while to get back. Yes, the light is to attract fish to the dock. I'll look at the circuits. Thanks for aiming there.

Solar charger switch
My fishlight is working (thanks to a lot of suggestions) and I am now charging the battery with a solar panel (with diode) and thats working great. But I am also manually disconnecting / reconnecting light and charger. Is there a simple DC relay that will switch off the light when the solar panel st...

Battery Backup for Power Fail
I have a variant on an earlier question. I have a situation where, when the AC power fails, I need to turn on a DC powered pump and run it until the AC comes back on. It runs easily for 2 days from a 12 v car battery. I was tinkering with this but AC "tinkering" makes me nervous. So I need...

Re: Aquarium Backup
Thanks all. After some consideration, I decided to just go with an oversized UPS. Seemed like the prudent thing to do. Thanks again
