FWIW, just saw on the science channel that our sun's magnetic field extends out to the Ort Cloud- way past Pluto. :o

I'll bite. How about a million-turns coil, and a nano-voltmeter?
Question- would it be more or less sensitive with air core or iron core?

Correct dacflyer! It was before I found out that the antenna had to be tuned! Had to learn about "resonance"!
Next build was a homebrew antenna tuner. Much fun.

Amazingly versatile transformer, that is. Wind it for whatever you like!
Only concern about an unloaded secondary with the primary powered, is contact between the secondary wires! Lotta amps!
