Keep in mind that a nickel plated copper lead will also be attracted by a magnet.

Most are copper with a nickel/gold plating to inhibit corrosion. Silver color is usually solder-tinned copper.

Teddy sounds like he ran much like Robie the Robot, popular in the late '80's. Robie actually moved around, moved his arms, and talked. You could teach it to move through a certain path, speak at different times, all based on the audio cassette in his chest. You could change the cassette to have him...

Sorry to hear of your "situation"! http://spyoutlet.com/products/index.cgi?code=3&cat=2 These are professional jobbies, $50-$80, but would certainly do the job. Any old electret mike and a pre-amp would work, but they pick up so much that it covers up the sound you're trying to hear.

I'm all for ultrasonics applications, but if it's motion detection you want, infra-red detectors are cheap, directional, and available in all types of ranges.

If you had access to an ultrasonic cleaner, submerge the board in isopropyl alcohol and shake away. Repeat with clean alcohol, dry.

My 2 cents- The ozone disassociates chlorine from the thermoset plastic distributor cap. It's a chloride dusting.
