wow steve thats a whole differant schematic than i am looking at but youre right the pot was not hooked up right. mine was just going from the 5v+ to the pin 5 i will try it again w a ground conncetion added there are a lot of differant ways to get this chip to do the same thing...interesting thanks
i get it kevin it seemed to me that the data sheet was more complex than what the buckeye dude was doing... do you say that cuz he is running two lm3914s? i got bread boards up the wazoo.. i even got this cool aluminium one that costs 100$ ill re do the divider in the am.... one thing for sure by th...
i soildered the 2 100k resistors together i stuck one end in the + and one into the - on my breadboard i then took the voltage in the 3 open spaces...but i did still have all the leds and the 3914 all on the same board ill try again on a differant board w nothing else.. i was just using 2 pins on th...
hey psycho i did what you said with two 100k resistors.. i must be hella dumb cuz my voltage divider only causes .2 drop (in the middle of the 2 resistors) from the 5.2v im putting into it. and the ground side and the positive sides both have 5.2. do i need to use bigger resistors? i did what you sa...
well thats just it i dont have the signal(pin5) hooked to any thing when pin5 is open all leds are on when i ground it they go out i have the whole thing running on 5v i saw the trouble shooting section in the link posted by setec ill see if i can figure it out but there really is not much to it i d...
so i built both the circuit on the data sheet and the one sugested by setec...but have the same problem... all on or nothing.... im not sure i giving it the right signal... i tried hooking pin 5 which is the signal pin to a 10k pot but same result ....when pin 5 hits ground all the leds go on there ...
wow ceasar and setec you guys nailed it right on the head ceasar i built one of the circuits in that data sheet. it was pretty straigt forward.... setec nailed it for me thats exactly the application i was looking for i have to spend some more time looking over but i sure want to make one for my car...

im sorry the cocktails must have kicked in but the end of my post...lol i typed lm3919 the lm3913 but the end of the post ... sorry if that caused confusion..... i meant lm3914n-1 but id like to figure out how it works with the alternator signal... i built a bar graph circuit using the 3914 and it w...
hey i will do buddy i just did it here because it was the only way i know how to get through to you. i had a big break through ( well small by your standards) but i finally programed the chip to do the silon led thing when i hit a button!!!! big moment for me... my mind is spinning now i want to lea...
